A working HPR breed
The Large Munsterlander is a gundog, originating from Germany. It belongs to the Hunt, Point and Retrieve Gundog Group, along with most other gundogs originating from the continent.

These are often described as an 'all round gundog', making them an ideal 'rough shooting' dog. Ideal for working in woodland, banking, rough cover and root fields, they will work steadily and thoroughly.

In the show ring
When showing we are asking the judge to measure our dog against the Kennel Club standard for the breed.  The competition in the ring is only part of  the reason why so many people enjoy dog shows.  It is a good day out for you and your dog, plus you will meet many friendly and like-minded people.

Other activities
Although Large Munsterlanders are essentially a gundog and we would always want to encourage you to think about gundog work in its various forms, we recognise that there are very many activities in which LMs excel.

Large Munsterlanders are dogs which need to use their brain and be kept active, and turn their paws to many things including agility, obedience, heelwork to music and more.
