The Kennel Club genetics centre to re-open as part of the University of Cambridge | Kennel Club

29/3/2021

Following the announcement in July 2020 of the closure of the Animal Health Trust, The Kennel Club is delighted to confirm that The Kennel Club Canine Genetics Centre will officially re-open and be located at the University of Cambridge. Here, the centre’s vital research into dog genetics and inherited canine conditions can continue.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has funded the centre since its initial launch at the Animal Health Trust in 2009. The new centre will continue to be led by Dr Cathryn Mellersh, and will resume its mission to research genetic mutations and assist in developing breeding tools for some of the most common and debilitating inherited conditions in dogs. The Kennel Club and the canine genetics team will work together to ensure that the centre’s research targets conditions that have the greatest impact on the health of dogs. The Kennel Club’s breed health and conservation plans, a project that gathers all available health information and data about each breed, will play a vital role in guiding the centre’s objectives and areas of research.

Update from the LMC: Club open and championship shows 2021

8/2/2021

Large Munsterlander Club Acting Secretary John Macgregor writes: The COVID-19 restrictions are obviously making planning very difficult. The best we can do for now is to seek KC approval to reschedule our shows in the hope that we can actually run them. The advantage in rescheduling is that it retains our existing show licences and can potentially provide us with more opportunity to act quickly if a date and venue becomes available.

If we were to cancel the shows and reapply for show licences there is absolutely no guarantee of the licence being granted. Free dates and venues are at a premium. We have attempted to run our Open Shows on the back of a General Open Show or General Champ Show. This has not been possible as Societies are aware that they may have to restrict entry numbers. Every entry that the LMC would bring to an event is one that might not be available to the host Society.

November Statement - Cancellation of events

2/11/2020

We regret to inform our members that due to the current situation we have taken the decision to cancel both our upcoming field trials and rescheduled championship show which was due to take place in January.

Large Munsterlander Club Secretary, John Macgregor said: “As a consequence of recent clarification and the imposition of further government restrictions it has become apparent that our planned field trials and our rescheduled championship show must now be cancelled.

“Should conditions improve and the situation is favourable we will make every effort to reinstate the events at a later date. The officers and committee of the LMC will delay making a decision on the February open show as late as possible in the hope that the show can go ahead in some form.”
