Working your Large Munsterlander
The Large Munsterlander is a gundog, originating from Germany. It belongs to the Hunt, Point and Retrieve Gundog Group, along with most other gundogs originating from the continent. These are often described as an 'all round gundog', making them an ideal 'rough shooting' dog. Ideal for working in woodland, banking, rough cover and root fields, they will work steadily and thoroughly.
The Large Munsterlander's love of water makes it an ideal duck or wildfowling gundog. They have excellent natural ability for tracking and retrieving wounded game, giving them great popularity as a 'deer dog'.
We are committed to promoting the breed as first and foremost a useful working Gundog and would like to see more LMs competing in Field Trials and Working Tests, attending our training days and Natural Aptitude Tests, as well as earning their keep on grouse and pheasant shoots.
Hall Barn - 4 July 2021
Every year the LMC holds its annual working test at the Hall Barn Estate by kind courtesy of Mrs J. Farncombe. Popular within the gundog community, the event is a place to celebrate working dogs and see Large Munsterlanders and other HPRs doing what they were bred to do.
After cancelling the event in 2020 due to the pandemic, this year was a great Covid-safe event. Thank you to all that entered and ran their dogs, and our judges:
PUPPY: Gordon Kirkwood
NOVICE: Tracie Rickman, David Short, Harriet Lampart
OPEN: Bradley Dymond, Francis Briley
NOVICE/PUPPY WATER: Sharon Pinkerton
FLOATING JUDGE: Peter Hobson
