WORKING TESTS & TRAINING DAYS 2019
Working Tests - a great way to work your HPR outside the shooting and field trial season. Working tests simulate what you and your dog might expect to experience on a day out shooting, in essence incorporating what most people experience during their HPR/gundog training. It is a great day out, often incorporating raffles and refreshments, as well as meeting lots of folk who enjoy training and running their HPR dogs in these tests.
All tests are based on the following elements:
Hunting - dogs are hunted over a variety of terrain, depending on the venue and the class. This could be open fields,
heather moors, woodland, bracken, cut crop fields.
Retrieving - dogs and handlers are assessed for their ability to retrieve a dummy whether that be seen, a blind, or a split, sometimes
with the sound of a shot pistol or a dummy launcher. The tests are of varying difficulty according to the class.
Water - dogs and handlers are assessed at retrieving from, or over, water. This could be a pond, a large lake, running water, etc.
Special Beginners classes (when scheduled) are for dogs and handlers who have not entered more than two Kennel Club working tests
and have not won a first in Special Beginners or an award in any classified class.
Training and help will be given on the day. It is a great introduction to working tests.
Puppy classes are for dogs of between 6 and 18 months of age and are appropriate for puppies/young dogs just starting out.
Novice classes are for dogs who have not won a novice class or been placed 1st–3rd in an open working test or gained a field trial award.
Dogs can be any age.
Open is for dogs of open standard, or those who have won a novice working test or a field trial award. Cold game is sometimes used.
