Field Trials are the pinnacle of competition for the working dog -
Each dog is allocated an area of ground in which it is expected to seek and find game, to indicate the presence of the game and present the game to be shot. The dog is then required to retrieve the game and deliver it undamaged to its handler. Having performed these functions, the dog is then tested on its retrieving ability in water.
Before you consider entering a field trial, you and your dog should have some experience of rough shooting. Your dog must be steady to shot and retrieve on command. The retrieves may be seen or blind, so you must be capable of directing your dog onto a bird at some distance.

The LMC is permitted to hold Show Gundog Working Days. Details will be published on our event diary when a day is next arranged.
Please see our event diary for details of all forthcoming LMC events.

A Gundog with three Challenge Certificates becomes a Show Champion, to become a Full Champion the dog must have gained a Field Trial award or a Show Gundog Working Certificate (note Full Champion NOT Dual Champion). A gundog which has won a Challenge Certificate or previously qualified for Crufts through a breed class may be entered for a Show Gundog Working Certificate at a Field Trial or a Show Gundog Working Day for its sub group.
In order to gain a certificate the dog must quarter the ground in search of game, point, and flush on command, and retrieve from land and water. Absolute steadiness is not required but the dog should be under reasonable control.
